When it comes time for radiographs, most of us put lead aprons on without thinking twice - but we don’t have a set of standards (or effective PPE!) to prevent the mental and emotional trauma for which all veterinary professionals are at risk. Coral Doherty, RVT and certified psychological health and safety advisor, submitted the winning idea to the spring Veterinary Visionaries solving event.
Coral suggested developing a set of standards for psychological safety in the veterinary workplace, a concept that grew from her knowledge of the Canadian Standard for Psychological Health and Safety. Coral discusses why psychological safety is an essential element in any healthy workplace and how these standards could transform the way we think about protecting our teams.
